Successful Primaries for Hart Customers in Ohio and Texas
published 03/05/2008
AUSTIN, Texas – In a closely watched election with record-breaking voter turnout, voters across Texas and Ohio cast their Primary Election ballots with ease using Austin-based Hart InterCivic's eScan and eSlate equipment on Tuesday, March 4.
"Both the eScan paper-based in-precinct scanner and the eSlate electronic voting system provided voters with secure, accurate, and reliable voting options," said Phillip Braithwaite, Hart's Senior Vice President and General Manager of Election Solutions, "Election Night was about the results, not about the equipment... and that is as it should be."
Braithwaite added, "We understand that lines were long across Texas and Ohio, and Hart’s equipment performed smoothly in the face of this demand. The time to prepare for long lines in upcoming elections is now, and one way to do so is with additional equipment."
Hart InterCivic provides Ohio counties with eScan in-precinct paper ballot scanners and eSlate electronic voting equipment that includes the voter verifiable paper audit trail. Voters in Texas also use the eScan and eSlate. Absentee ballots were scanned centrally on Hart’s Ballot Now digital scanning equipment. "The complexity of this election was huge," said Braithwaite. "For example, Hamilton County, Ohio ran their election with well over one thousand pieces of polling place equipment, and Harris County, Texas deployed almost ten thousand pieces of equipment for this Election Day. Running one of these elections is a major event, and these were fantastic successes for our customers and their voters."
